Richard Rosen: A Brief Biography

Brain Busters, a high school quiz show developed by Rich Rosen and WGAL Channel 8, began airing in January 2002. Rich and WGAL have teamed with new sponsor Westfield Insurance to continue with the tradition of celebrating academic achievement in our schools. Westfield Insurance Brain Busters on WGAL Channel 8 features dozens of high school quiz bowl teams from the Susquehanna Valley.

This venture marks Rich’s return to WGAL. In 1993, he moved to the Susquehanna Valley and worked with WGAL Channel 8 as host of the successful campaign, HomeTrends, offering home improvement ideas.

Academics and education have always been important to Rich. He was valedictorian of his high school class in Oak Park, Michigan and attended The University of Michigan where he graduated With Distinction in Speech, Communication and Theatre.

Rich returned to school in 1994 and received a degree in Elementary Education. He taught high school Spanish for two years and now teaches gifted and talented high school students in the West Shore School District in Central Pennsylvania.

While attending school and beginning his teaching career, Rich developed Home Town Surprises for the ABC affiliate. These vignettes highlighted places to visit, play or shop in Central Pennsylvania. He also wrote and hosted Classroom Close-Up. This televised campaign highlighted the positives of education in Pennsylvania by visiting classrooms and interviewing teachers and students.

In 1997, Rich combined his love for education with his interest in television broadcasting by creating and developing High Q, a high school quiz show that aired for four seasons in Central Pennsylvania.

Rich brings extensive experience to WGAL and Brain Busters. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, he lived in Los Angeles where he studied acting with notable teachers Gordon Hunt (Helen Hunt’s father), Darryl Hickman and Stella Adler. The lessons learned in acting class paved the way for a career in commercials and animation. In the early 90′s, he co-produced and co-hosted a comedy talk show on KIEV 870 Talk Radio, in Los Angeles.

Rich also worked as an Assistant Cruise Director on cruise ships sailing to the Caribbean and Bermuda. There, he served as Master of Ceremonies, social director, Spanish translator, sports director, tour guide and host.

Brainbusters, sponsored by Westfield Insuance and hosted by Rich Rosen, is a new TV quiz show for high school students that airs on Saturdays at 12:30 and sometimes on Sundays on WGAL-TV, Channel 8.
